5 Women from Track & Field Team Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

by Linus Binks

The University of Louisville’s women’s track and field team recently had five of its athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women’s Track & Field Academic All-District team. Soledad Jean, Carly Pujol, Synclair Savage, Aliyah Welter, and Zoe Yeast all made the list. To qualify for this honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. The CSC Academic All-America program recognizes track & field honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

Soledad Jean, a psychology major, competed in six meets this season, qualifying for the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round in the high jump for the second year in a row. She cleared 1.81m (5-11.25) to win the Clark Wood Invitational, with that height standing as a new meet record and tying her for the tenth-best jump in program history. Carly Pujol, an exercise science major, placed seventh in the pole vault at the ACC Outdoor Championships to score two points for the team, with a personal-best mark of 4.18m (13-8.5). Synclair Savage, another exercise science major, broke her own school record in the long jump at the Texas Relays, leaping 6.53m (21-5.25), while also anchoring the women’s 4x100m relay team to a national qualification. Aliyah Welter, currently pursuing a master’s in business administration after completing two undergraduate degrees, earned a silver-medal finish at the ACC Outdoor Championships in the pole vault, clearing a season-best height of 4.28m (14-0.5). Zoe Yeast, a criminal justice major, finished her season with an eighth-place finish in the discus to score a point for the Cardinals at the ACC Outdoor Championships, recording a personal-best heave of 57.55m (188-9) in the hammer throw at the Joe Walker Invitational.

All five of these accomplished athletes have made the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll multiple times during their collegiate careers, and some of them have received additional academic honors as well. Carly Pujol, for example, was recognized as a member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2021, while Welter was a recipient of the ACC Postgraduate Scholarship earlier this year. As the College Sports Communicators Women’s Track & Field Academic All-District team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom, these five young women should be proud of their achievements both on and off the track.
