Anna DeBeer Named ACC Scholar of the Year; 10 Cards on ACC All-Academic Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — University of Louisville outside hitter, Anna DeBeer, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference 2023 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, highlighting the All-ACC Academic Team for the sport. DeBeer, a CSC Academic All-American and AVCA Second Team All-American, had an outstanding season, leading the team in several statistical categories including kills, points, and double doubles.

In addition to her Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor, DeBeer also received numerous accolades this season. She was named the East Region Player of the Year and first team All-East Region, as well as earning a spot on the NCAA All-Regional team. Her impressive performances included a double-double with 19 kills and 13 digs in the Sweet 16 match against Creighton. She also had a career-high 29 kills and 30 points in a match against No. 7 Pittsburgh, along with five aces in a match against Wake Forest. DeBeer also joined the 1,000 Career Kill Club this year.

DeBeer is not the only player on the All-ACC Academic Team with an impressive resume. Clemson’s Mckenna Slavik, Notre Dame’s Hattie Monson, and Pitt’s Lexis Akeo have all earned their fourth All-ACC Academic Team honors.

Overall, 26 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic team, showcasing their commitment to success both on and off the court. All 15 ACC volleyball programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, with Boston College leading the conference with 14 student-athletes.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established to recognize the top junior or senior student-athletes in their respective sports. Eligible candidates must have maintained a 3.0-grade point average for their careers as well as the last two semesters.

To be selected to the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must have a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during their academic career. Additionally, they must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.

The 2023 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athletes of the Year are Anna DeBeer from Louisville and Rachel Fairbanks from Pitt. The All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team includes student-athletes from various ACC programs, with each team well-represented. The combination of excellence in academics and athletics makes these student-athletes role models for their peers.
