Louisville, KY – The University of Louisville volleyball program continues to showcase its talent as signees Nayelis Cabello and Payton Petersen are set to represent the Cardinals at the 2024 Under Armour Next All-American Volleyball Match. This prestigious event brings together the top high school volleyball players in the country, split into two teams – Team Fire and Team Ice. The match will be televised live on ESPNU at 4:30 p.m. ET today in Orlando.
Nayelis Cabello hails from Clermont, Florida, where she played for East Ridge High School under the guidance of head coach Mayra Cuebas. Cabello, a 6-0 setter, also shined on the club circuit for Top Select Volleyball Academy under coach German Del-Valle. Her impressive performances earned her All-American honors twice and she was a part of the AAU runner-up squad in 2023. Cabello’s talent was further recognized when she was named an MVP at the Under Armour Next Selection Camp in 2022.
Meanwhile, Payton Petersen, a 5-10 outside hitter, represents Dike, Iowa, where she played for Dike-New Hartford under head coach Diane Harms. Petersen also competed for Six Pack, a renowned club team, under the guidance of coach Jay Grassley. She made significant contributions to her club’s success, finishing as national runner-up in 2022 and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. In 2023, Petersen and her team claimed the national championship, with Petersen being named the MVP in the national division. At Dike-New Hartford, she achieved three state championships in 2020, 2021, and 2023, with a state runner-up finish in 2022. Petersen’s accolades include being a four-time All-Conference, All-District, and All-State selection from 2020 to 2023. She was also named the Co-Player of the Year in 2021 and was recognized as the Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022. Petersen’s remarkable talent landed her a spot as a 2023 Under Armour All-American.
