Korbe Otis, a player from the University of Louisville, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week. The news was announced by the league office together with the Clemson University’s Valerie Cagle. This is the second weekly conference award that Otis has received this season. She previously won it on February 28.
Otis played a vital role in leading the Cardinals to a 4-0 record last week, including a three-game sweep against NC State. Their success helped to extend Louisville’s overall win streak to seven games and picked up its seventh-straight ACC victory. The sophomore outfielder batted .500 and achieved two triples, eight runs, and six RBIs. She recorded RBIs in three of the four games, driving in three during the Cards 10-1 win at Eastern Kentucky.
As the Cardinals’ leadoff hitter, Otis nailed a .545 on-base percentage and .750 slugging percentage. She was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases and scored at least one run in each of Louisville’s games. Moreover, during the 13-0 series-clinching win over NC State, Otis scored a career-high four runs, equalling a school record. Additionally, she delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth in Sunday’s 3-2 win, making sure that Louisville secured a series sweep.
This season, Otis is the top performer in the team, having a .417 batting average and 36 runs. She has reached base in 24 straight games. UofL (22-9) will travel to Kentucky this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for a midweek matchup. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Last week, the Cardinals received an ACC Player of the Week accolade through freshman Sarah Gordon’s tremendous effort.
