The University of Louisville’s softball team continues to make waves in the sport after three of its players earned spots in the D1Softball All-America teams. The team’s graduate senior Taylor Roby and Korbe Otis were both given second team honors while Sarah Gordon was included in the inaugural All-American Freshman Team. With these recent awards, the university’s softball program demonstrates that it has a bright future ahead.
Roby’s achievements in the 2023 season proved to be game-changers for the university’s softball team. She showed her mettle as a right-handed pitcher/designated player when she led the ACC and ranked second in the nation, thanks to her school record of 23 home runs scored. She also chalked up 57 RBIs, which is a league-best and her career-best season to date. Roby also carried an excellent .360 batting average and an .835 slugging percentage. Her offensive record alone is impressive, especially since she managed to break the single-season home run record with a total of 63 home runs over her career at the university. Additionally, she led the team with a 2.47 ERA on the field and a 10 win streak in the circle.
Gordon, who was named the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, had an amazing debut season. The catcher hailing from Lexington, S.C. finished the season with 49 RBIs, 11 home runs, and 12 doubles, which all led to her appointment to both the All-ACC First Team and All-Freshman Team. Her contribution led to the university’s success to compete in the NCAA tournament with a record of 36-20.
Another player that stood out in the university’s softball team is Korbe Otis. The sophomore outfielder closed her campaign with a .414 batting average and seven triples, leading the ACC with 63 runs scored. The Littleton, Colo. native, who received NFCA All-Southeast Region Third Team honors, was also named to the All-ACC First Team. Otis played a significant role in helping the university achieve its fourth place finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference by posting a record of 16-7 in league play.
The University of Louisville softball team has had a successful 2023 season, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, marking its 15th appearance in the competition. Though it has been four years since the Cardinals’ last appearance, the team has shown that it is ready to make a comeback. The talented players have continued to perform at a high level, and the fact that three of them have been included in the D1Softball All-America teams speaks volumes about their potential.
