Cardinals Sign Transfer Danilo Jovanovich from Miami

by Kevin Young

The University of Louisville’s men’s basketball program revealed on Thursday that they have signed Danilo Jovanovich, a transfer student from the University of Miami, to their 2023-24 roster.

After playing in just one game as a true freshman for the Miami Hurricanes last season, Jovanovich chose to redshirt. The 6-foot-8 forward’s statistics were not publicized.

Jovanovich attended Whitnall High School in Wisconsin, where he averaged 29 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists per game in his senior season. The Milwaukee native was an Associated Press First Team All-State selection, as well as a two-time unanimous conference player of the year and runner-up for 2022 Wisconsin Mr. Basketball.

He led his team to two conference championships, one regional crown, a final 21-4 record, and a perfect 12-0 mark in league play during his senior year. As a junior, he racked up 23 points and eight rebounds per game, and as a sophomore, he averaged 21 points per game.

Jovanovich also competed for Team Herro in the Nike EYBL AAU circuit in 2021. During which he attained an average of 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

UofL head coach Kenny Payne is optimistic that Jovanovich’s strong mentality and work ethic will help build the program’s character and result in success. “Danilo is a talented, tough, skilled basketball player with an old-school mentality. He will bring a winning spirit and unbelievable work ethic to our program that fans will love. This program has to be built on the character of the players walking in the door. Danilo is a super high character warrior who wanted to be in our environment. I’m excited to welcome him and his family to our Cardinal family,” Payne said.

For the 2023-24 season, Louisville is working on building a more formidable team. The Cardinals were 13-7 last season. With the addition of Jovanovich and other talented recruits, they aspire to be more successful in the following seasons.
