Cardinals to Face Eastern Kentucky in Home Opener

Louisville, KY – Excitement is high as the University of Louisville women’s tennis team gears up to kick off their season on Saturday, January 20. The Cardinals will be hosting Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m. inside the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Originally, the Cardinals were set to have a doubleheader against both Lipscomb and EKU. However, due to unfortunate weather conditions, Lipscomb will no longer be able to make the trip.

The Cardinals, with only one returning player this season, are looking to build upon their past successes. Jamilah Snells, a sophomore, will be leading the team as they begin their campaign. Joining her are two experienced transfers, senior Lillian Mould from Oregon and redshirt sophomore Allie Gretkowski from South Carolina.

Additionally, this year’s team boasts a talented group of five freshmen who are eager to make their collegiate debuts. Ibifuro Clement, Germany Davis, Berta Miret, Elena Noguero, and Lika Peresypkina will all be showcasing their skills on Saturday.

The Cardinals have a favorable history against Eastern Kentucky, leading the series with a 3-0 record. The last meeting between these two teams took place on January 28, 2023, where Louisville emerged victorious with a 6-1 score at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Eastern Kentucky, coming off a strong start to their season with a 4-3 win over Western Kentucky, is eager to make a statement against the Cardinals. Last season, the Colonels went 5-19 and ended their year with a 4-0 loss to Kennesaw State in the ASUN tournament.

It’s an exciting time for women’s tennis at the University of Louisville as they kick off their season against Eastern Kentucky.
