Cardinals to Host Battle of the Bluegrass

In a fierce battle for state supremacy, the No. 13/6-ranked University of Louisville men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will take on their in-state rival, the University of Kentucky, in a home matchup on Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m. at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

The Cardinals are coming off a dominant performance in their last home meet on January 5, where they swept Missouri with the men winning 205-89 and the women winning 203-96. The team was led by multiple first-place finishes, with standout performances from Christiana Regenauer and Kim Herkle on the women’s side and Denis Petrashov and Guy Brooks on the men’s side.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a loss to the University of Alabama on January 13. The women lost 163-156, while the men were defeated 175-144. The team’s performance at the Tennessee Invitational in November was also less than stellar, with the men finishing fourth and the women finishing fifth out of eight teams.

In their last meeting on January 22, 2022, UofL emerged victorious in the Battle of the Bluegrass, with the women winning 174-126 and the men winning 208.5-88.5. The Cardinals will be aiming to make it two straight wins against their rivals, while the Wildcats will be looking to improve their 1-6 record against UofL since 1999.
