Carson Liggett, the starting pitcher for the University of Louisville, has been named the Dick Howser Trophy National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. This weekly award adds to Liggett’s impressive resume, and he is the first Louisville player to win a NCBWA National Player of the Week award since Logan Wyatt in 2019.
Liggett showcased his incredible pitching abilities in a recent game against Michigan in the finale of the 2023 Shriners Children’s College Classic in Houston. The right-hander tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout and only allowed one hit. During the game, Liggett allowed just three baserunners and retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced. These outstanding pitching efforts contributed to the Louisville Cardinals’ victory over the Michigan Wolverines with a score of 4-0.
Liggett’s performance on the mound has been consistently impressive this season. With this win, the sophomore improved to 3-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.53 through three starts.
Louisville will be back on the field this weekend for a three-game series against Dayton, and the Cardinals are hoping for another stellar performance from Liggett to add to their already impressive record. The series will begin on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium. Fans are eagerly waiting to see if Liggett can continue his dominant pitching performances and lead Louisville to another victory.
