Louisville’s softball team won two games in their Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader against NC State at Ulmer Stadium on Saturday. The Cardinals secured their second consecutive ACC series and have now won their last six games, putting their record at 21-9 (6-2 ACC).
Their offense was led by Taylor Roby, who had four hits and five RBIs, including a homerun. Hannah File also played well, with three hits, two homeruns, and three RBIs between the two games. They will finish the series with a game on Sunday at 12:30 pm.
In the first game, Alyssa Zabala got her 10th win while Roby had two hits, including her team-high 11th homerun of the year, and four RBIs. After NC State took an early lead with an unearned run, Roby’s three-run homer in the first inning put the Cardinals ahead. Each team scored again before the Cards put the game away in the 5th inning with three runs. NC State added another run to bring the final score to 7-4.
In the second game, Sam Booe and Cassie Grizzard combined for a one-hitter, while Sarah Gordon had five RBIs and a homerun. Booe struck out eight in four innings to get the win, and the Cardinals ended up winning 13-0 in just five innings. The Cards’ offense started fast in the first innings and did not let up from there, scoring 2, 3, 3, and 5 runs in each inning respectively until the game was over.
Some notes from the game include Daisy Hess extending her hitting streak to 10 games, Korbe Otis having reached first in 23 straight games while leading the team with 12 multi-hit games, and Taylor Roby improving her school-record career homerun total to 51. Louisville has also had nine shutouts and seven eight-run victories so far this season. The Cardinals have won six straight ACC games from their games on March 11 to date.
