Cason Wallace SEC Freshman of the Week√

by Caitlyn Barnes

Cason Wallace, Kentucky Men’s Basketball’s Freshman, has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. Wallace was honored after a stunning performance in a win over Florida where he scored 20 points, dished out two assists, and recorded a career-high three blocks.

This is the third consecutive week that a Wildcat has received SEC recognition, with Oscar Tshiebwe winning the SEC Player of the Week award earlier in January. Wallace made a strong comeback to the starting lineup after missing the Ole Miss game, leading the team with 20 points and contributing three rebounds, three blocks, and two assists in the 72-67 victory over the Gators.

In the game, Wallace scored 10 of Kentucky’s final 16 points, including seven of the last 10, showcasing his impressive scoring abilities. Including this game he’s had 14 double-figure scoring games and this was his second 20 point showing.

Under John Calipari’s tutelage, Kentucky has seen several UK players being awarded the weekly SEC awards, winning more awards (123) than any other school, including ninety-three Freshman of the Week awards and thirty PoW honors.

Wallace is a standout player, ranking among the league’s leaders in steals per game (6th), assists per game (7th), and assist-to-turnover ratio (7th). He averages 11.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, placing him third on the team.

The Wildcats host the Hogs Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET Rupp Arena. The game will be shown on ESPN.
