Louisville, Kentucky – The University of Louisville men’s tennis team has announced the addition of Diego Nava as their new assistant coach. Head coach Rodrigo da Silva expressed his excitement about this new addition, highlighting Nava’s impressive skills both as a player and a coach.
“We are super excited about adding Diego to our staff here in Louisville,” said da Silva. “Not only has he been an excellent player on the court, but he’s done really well in his transition into coaching. He’s an exciting young coach who is going to bring a lot of energy and passion to the team.”
Nava, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, shared his enthusiasm for joining the dedicated and hard-working team in Louisville.
“I am beyond grateful to have this opportunity given to me by Rodrigo da Silva, Josh Heird, and John Carns,” said Nava. “I am looking forward to starting the season with such a dedicated and hard-working team. I’m thrilled to call Louisville my new home and I’m excited for what is to come.”
Nava brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent 18 months as an independent contractor at the United States Tennis Association (USTA). During this time, he had the opportunity to travel and work with top junior and professional American players, alongside notable coaches such as Troy Hahn, Sylvain Guichard, and Dean Goldfine at the USTA Player Development campus in Orlando.
Furthermore, Nava played a crucial role in helping his brother, Emilio Nava, achieve impressive milestones in his tennis career. Emilio reached the semifinals at the Knoxville Challenger, the final at the Stanford Challenger, and past qualifying at the US Open. He currently ranks in the top 150 in singles.
Diego Nava also has a distinguished collegiate tennis career, playing for five seasons from 2017 to 2022. He spent four seasons at Loyola Marymount and his final season at Xavier. Nava served as a captain for both teams during his final three seasons. He achieved a national ranking of 32nd in doubles during his sophomore year at LMU and 51st in singles during his graduate studies at Xavier. Nava also gained valuable NCAA playing experience when he participated in the 2022 NCAA DI individual’s tournament.
Originally from Woodland Hills, California, Nava is excited to bring his expertise and passion for tennis to the University of Louisville men’s tennis program. The team and coaching staff are looking forward to the upcoming season with great anticipation.
