In an exciting announcement, the Kentucky men’s soccer team has had two players named to the 2023 Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team. Ben Damge and Casper Mols received this remarkable honor after their outstanding performances in the quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
Head coach Johan Cedergren expressed his pride in the players, stating, “Really proud of Ben and Casper for making the all-tournament team. They both had excellent performances in the quarterfinal and semifinal matches.”
Damge, a forward, received his first conference award of the season with his inclusion in the all-tournament team. He secured a game-winning goal against James Madison in the quarterfinal, securing Kentucky’s advancement to the semifinal. Throughout the season, Damge played in all 18 matches, starting in 11 of them. He recorded two crucial goals, both of which were game-winners for the team. Damge also took 18 shots, with eight of them on goal. Overall, he has represented Kentucky in 57 matches and scored 10 goals during his four-year tenure as a Wildcat.
Mols, a sophomore goalkeeper, earned tournament honors after putting on strong performances in the net. His saved penalty kick against James Madison in the quarterfinal resulted in a victory, propelling Kentucky to the semifinal. This season, Mols played in 16 matches and made 16 starts, accumulating 59 saves and six shutouts. As the 2023 Preseason Sun Belt Goalkeeper of the Year, Mols holds a season record of 7-5-4. In the conference tournament alone, he made seven saves and allowed four goals.
