The Kentucky Softball team has received recognition for their outstanding players as two members, Erin Coffel and Stephanie Schoonover, have been named to the Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Team. The team, consisting of 24 members, was voted on by the 13 SEC head coaches. Coffel, a senior from Bremen, Indiana, had an impressive season last year, hitting .440 with 19 home runs and 55 RBIs. She also led the nation in walks drawn with 64 and scored 60 runs. Schoonover, from Vicksburg, Mississippi, had a 12-2 record with a 2.01 ERA in 27 appearances. She threw 12 complete games, had eight shutouts, and recorded 160 strikeouts in 114.2 innings of work. She also had three saves.
In addition to the individual honors, the SEC preseason coaches’ poll was released with Kentucky being picked to finish 10th. Tennessee was chosen as the favorite to win the SEC with six first-place votes, followed closely by Georgia who received six first-place votes as well. Florida, who received one first-place vote, was predicted to finish seventh.
The Designated Players Club has been introduced as the official booster program for Kentucky Softball. Contributions and support from the club will help in the development of the student-athletes both on and off the field.
The Preseason All-SEC Softball Team for 2024 includes players from various schools such as Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. The full list of players can be found above.
The SEC Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll results were as follows: Tennessee and Georgia were neck and neck at the top, with Tennessee receiving six first-place votes and 137 points, while Georgia had six first-place votes and 136 points. LSU was in third place with 106 points, followed by Arkansas and Auburn. Kentucky was predicted to finish 10th with 53 points.
