We’re back with our look at football programs around the Commonwealth.  Lots of good football being played so check out a game in your area if you have the time.  As usual if you have any more info on how to follow the programs mentioned just reach out.

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

As we talked about in last week’s edition WKU defeated MTSU 31-10 in a big rivalry game to snap a two-game losing streak.  The Hilltoppers are 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference and tonight they head to Ruston, LA to take on Louisiana Tech.  The game kicks off at 8pm ET on ESPNU.

Eastern Kentucky Colonels

EKU went down to Alabama and left with a 32-22 win over North Alabama.  A late TD from the Lions made it seem closer than it was as EKU jumped out to a 29-7 HT lead and were up 32-14 deep into the 4th quarter.  QB Parker McKinney threw for 260 yards and 2 TD (and rushed for 1 TD) while RB Joshua Carter ran for 140 and added another TD on the ground.  The Colonels are now 2-3 on the season but more importantly 1-0 in UAC play.

EKU is on a bye this week.

Murray State Racers

The Racers defeated Indiana State 30-28 at home this past weekend.  DB Chris Hill Jr. returned an INT for a TD early in the 3rd quarter to put Murray State up 23-7 but after the Sycamores scored twice to cut the lead to two points in the 4th quarter.  QB DJ Williams fired a 37-yard TD pass to TE Cole Rusk to put the Racers up 30-21 which was ultimately the difference in the game.  Murray State is now 2-2 and 1-0 in MVC play.

This week Murray State heads to Vermillion, SD to take on the 15th ranked South Dakota Coyotes.  The game kicks off at 3pm ET/2pm CT and can be streamed on ESPN+.

Morehead State Eagles

Morehead State lost another close game this time 16-9 to Drake.  The Eagles fell into a 13-0 hole but fought back to cut the lead to 4 at 13-9.  The Eagles had two drives end n Drake territory with a brutal penalty stalling the first and a back-breaking INT that was returned their 15 essentially ended the game on the second.  The Eagles fall to 1-3 and 0-2 in conference play.

This week they have another home game as they welcome Dayton to Jayne Stadium.  The game kicks off at 1pm ET and can be streamed on ESPN+.

Kentucky State Thorobreds

Kentucky State hosted Albany State for Homecoming this past weekend but fell into a 33-13 hole late in the 3rd quarter.  QB Denim Johnson led a furious comeback including a 77-yard TD run to cut the lead to 6 but it fell short.  Kentucky State lost 33-27 and is now 1-4 on the season and 0-4 in SIAC play.

Things don’t get easier as Kentucky State now heads to Allendale, MI to take on 7th ranked Grand Valley State.  The game kicks off at 7pm ET and it looks like it will be streamed on Flosports and can be found here

Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers

KWC went up to Ohio and lost a close game to Findlay 27-21.  The Panthers had a lead at HT but a 14-point 3rd quarter from Findlay was too much to overcome.  Former E-Town HS standout Kam Sherrard led the way with 3 receptions for 120 yards and 2 TD.  KWC falls to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Panthers are back at home this week as they welcome in-state rival Thomas More to Steele Stadium in Owensboro, KY.  The game kicks off at 6pm CT/7pm ET and it appears the game can be streamed here

Thomas More Saints

Thomas More had a competitive first quarter but the wheels came off and the Saints fell to Tiffin 47-9 at home.  Former Simon Kenton star QB Chase Crone got his first start and was able to rush for a TD but there wasn’t much else in the way of highlights.  Thomas More falls to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference.

This week they had to Owensboro, KY to take on in-state rival Kentucky Wesleyan.

Centre College Colonels

Centre was on a bye this past week and now head to San Antonio, TX to take on 5th ranked Trinity.  It looks like there will be a stream provided at this link.

Campbellsville Tigers

Campbellsville went on the road and defeated Cumberland (TN) 34-16.  The Tigers overcame a 9-0 first quarter deficit and were led by former Boyle County star Jagger Gillis who threw for 295 yards and 4 TD.  Campbellsville improves to 3-2 and 1-0 in Mid-South Conference play.

Another road conference test is on deck as the Tigers travel to Montgomery, AL to take on Faulkner.  Kick-off is at 7pm ET and there will be a stream here

Georgetown Tigers

Despite not playing this week Georgetown moved up to 19th in the polls.  The Tigers finally begin Mid-South Conference play by road-tripping to McKenzie, TN to take on the 6th ranked Bethel Wildcats.  The game kicks-off at 2pm ET and there will be a stream but I do think Bethel charges to stream games.

Cumberlands Patriots

The 19th ranked Cumberlands welcomed the 6th ranked Bethel Wildcats to Williamsburg and fell 30-10.  The Patriots were unable to get any offensive rhythm going and the wheels came off late in the 2nd half.  The loss drops Cumberlands to 4-1 and 0-1 in the Mid-South.  The loss only saw them drop one spot to 20th in this week’s rankings though.

Up next Cumberlands travels Lebanon, TN to take on Cumberland (TN).  The game kicks off at 2:30pm ET and there does appear to be a stream here.

Pikeville Bears

Pikeville picked up a big 52-10 win over the Union College Bulldogs this past weekend.  QB Lee Kirkland threw for an astonishing 614 yards and 6 TD and the Bears had 3 WR go for over 100 yards receiving (led by Derrick Griffit who caught 10 balls for 233 yards and 2 TD).  UPike improved to 3-2 and 1-0 AAC play.

Up next for the Bears is a road trip to Waleska, GA to the 24th ranked Reinhartdt Eagles.  The game kicks off at 1:30 pm ET and there will be a stream available here

Union College Bulldogs

The Bulldogs dropped a tough one to Pikeville losing 52-10.  The lone TD was a 2-yard run by QB Bryson Grabowski in the 4th quarter but there wasn’t much else going for the Bulldogs.  The loss dropped Union to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the AAC.

Up next Union will welcome St. Andrews to Barbourville.  The game kicks-off at 1:30pm ET.

Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders

The 10th ranked Blue Raiders got a 49-21 home win over Faulkner.  Lindsey Wilson got two punt returns for TD (one each from WRs Logan Collier and Quantae Hicks) and a defensive score of a fumble return from LB Cameron Rankins.  The Blue Raiders are now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference.

Linsdey Wilson will be on a bye this week.

Kentucky Christian Knights

The Knights lost 35-0 at home to Point.  KCU was led in tackles by LB Norrie Alexander who had 8 total tackles while LB Derrick Houston led the way with 1 sack.  The loss drops the Knights to 0-6.

KCU is on a bye this upcoming week.
