If you weren’t able to tune into the NBA game with the Sacrament Kings and the Los Angeles Clippers you missed a barn burner. It will likely go down as one of the epic battles in NBA history and two former Kentucky Wildcats, Malik Monk and DeAaron Fox, were the driving force in the historic game.
Kings vs. Clippers is the second-highest scoring game in NBA history at 176-175. The duo’s performance was record setting at the franchise level as well with teammates to score 40 or more points in the same game. Monk had a career night with 45 points off the bench to go along with 6 assists and 6 made three-pointers. Fox wasn’t shy either. He scored 42 points with 26 coming in the fourth quarter and two overtime periods combined. Fox also pulled down 12 boards, dished out 5 assists and picked 5 pockets.
The Kings shot lights out from behind the arc at 43.9% (18 out of 41). Not to be outmatched the Clippers scorched the Kings with 57.8% from behind the arc.
But the final score wasn’t the only record that night. The two teams combining for a total of 44 3 pointers made is a tie for the best in the history of the NBA.
The Kings have been getting a lot of flak this year with many calling them overrated and too young.
The 176 points are a Sacrament Kings franchise record. Combine the points of both teams with 351 and that is second to only one game in NBA history, Detroit vs. Denver in 1983, with a total of 370 points.
Malik Monk and Fox were teammates on the Kentucky Wildcats 2016-2017 roster. Current NBA All-Star and Miami Heat player Bam Adebayo was also on that roster.
The Kings will need to improve on the defensive end if they want to make a run deep into the NBA playoffs. But if this game is any indication of what is to come then the Kings will be a team to watch in the West.
