Kentucky track and field students have qualified four members to compete at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas next month. Brian Faust, Wayne Lawrence Jr., Kennedy Lightner, and Justin Swann all qualified in the men’s 4×400 relay, while Faust, Lawrence Jr., and Lightner also qualified in separate individual events. The four members have secured a place in the championship through their impressive performances at the NCAA Division I East Preliminaries. Faust, Lawrence Jr., Swann, and Lightner crossed the line at 3:05.20 in the 4×400 relay to finish second in their heat, earning an automatic qualifier for the championship.
Lawrence Jr. earned an automatic qualifier place in the 400 meters after placing third in his heat with a time of 46.36, while Faust placed eighth overall with a time of 46.67, both advancing to the next level. Lightner also secured the final automatic qualifier position on the day in the 200 meters by finishing second in his heat, with a time of 19.90 (4.8), and went on to place second overall in the prelim.
Keaton Daniel, Josh Sobota, Robbie Springfield, and Jordan Turner from the Kentucky track and field men’s field team had already qualified for the championships on Wednesday, giving the Wildcats a total of eight talented members fighting for a championship in Austin next month. The NCAA Division I East Preliminaries was concluded the next day for the UKTF women’s division. The Kentucky Track and Field and Cross Country team will be updating and providing any further details.
