The University of Kentucky women’s golf team has two players, Laney Frye and Jensen Castle, who were recognized as All-Americans by Golfweek. Frye, a senior from Lexington, Kentucky, and Castle, a senior from West Columbia, South Carolina, received their second All-American honors in the off-season. Frye was named to the Golfweek All-American Third Team; Castle was named a Golfweek All-American Honorable Mention. This recognition followed their previous recognitions of WGCA All-American Second Team (Frye) and WGCA All-American Honorable Mention (Castle).
Frye broke four school records, including the single-season scoring average (70.7), single-season, par-or-better rounds (20), career par-or-better rounds (47), and low 18-hole round (63) during the 2022-23 season. She helped UK set numerous team records while contributing to two team titles. Frye was named to the All-SEC Second Team and invited to compete at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Castle concluded the season with a 71.7 scoring average and made 16 out of 27 competitive rounds par-or-better, including seven rounds in the 60s. She contributed to UK’s back-to-back tournament titles in the fall, finishing at T4 to win the Illini Women’s Invitational and medalist to win the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Castle earned her first All-American Honor as a WGCA All-American Honorable Mention this season.
Both players will return as Wildcats in 2023-24, and Kentucky fans are hopeful that they will continue to bring success to the women’s golf program.
