The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team has a new associate coach of player development, Jenny Huth. This was announced by head coach Kyra Elzy on Monday. Huth is known and respected in women’s college basketball, and she brings with her a lot of great experience and knowledge to the program. Elzy, the head coach, believes that Huth exudes a contagious passion for the game, as well as for preparing young women for life after college. According to her, the team will appreciate her compassion, determination, and loyal nature.
Huth is not new to college basketball, as she previously served as an assistant coach at Oregon State for the past two seasons, where she coached the Pac-12 Freshman and Sixth Player of the Year. She helped the Beavers reach the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament during her time. Apart from that, she also assisted Oregon State to a 17-14 record in her first year, where the team made it to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals. Huth also has coaching experience as the head coach at Northern Colorado, where she led the program to a 48-41 record during her tenure, and as an assistant coach at UCLA, Oakland University, and as a graduate assistant at Florida State.
Huth was a standout player at Colorado from 1998-02, where she was named a three-time All-Big 12 selection. She helped guide the Buffaloes to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight as a senior, and she finished her career among the top 10 in several scoring categories in program history. Huth also played professionally both in Spain and for the National Women’s Basketball League’s Colorado Chill. She will be joined in the Bluegrass by her husband Tracy and her two children Tanner (9) and Ellie (4).
Overall, Huth’s vast experience in coaching and playing basketball at different levels will undoubtedly bring a new perspective to the Kentucky women’s basketball program, and fans of the team are excited to see what she can contribute.
