According to sources, the University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) is expected to announce K.T. Turner as their new head coach, replacing the recently fired Greg Young. Turner is currently an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky, and has previously worked as an assistant coach at Oklahoma, Texas, and Southern Methodist University (SMU).
Before his time as an assistant coach, Turner began his career coaching at the junior college level and later moved on to coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Wichita State. Turner also played professional basketball in Italy for three years.
Turner was recruited to the University of Kentucky by head coach John Calipari last year and has been recognized for his exceptional coaching ability and his passion for player development. Calipari had previously worked with Turner at Memphis, where he served as a graduate assistant coach. According to Calipari, Turner has strong ties to the Cincinnati area and is an established coach who loves to spend time in the gym working with young athletes.
UT Arlington’s decision to hire Turner comes after the team’s poor performance under the leadership of Young, who was fired after less than two years as head coach. The team posted a record of 11-18 in Young’s first season and followed that up with an 11-21 record this season.
When announcing Turner as their new head coach, UT Arlington expressed confidence in his ability to turn the team’s fortunes around and help them achieve success on the court.
