Kentucky Men's Tennis Dominates LSU with 6-1 Victory at Home

Kentucky’s men’s tennis team won their second consecutive conference match, defeating the LSU Tigers 6-1 at the Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington on Thursday night. The Wildcats claimed the doubles point and went on to win five out of six singles matches.

Alafia Ayeni and Taha Baadi secured the first doubles match, defeating Stefan Latinovic and Nick Watson 6-2, while Liam Draxl and Jaden Weekes clinched the doubles result with a 6-3 win on court three. The Wildcats have now won the doubles point in two straight matches, improving their doubles record to 11-5 for the spring season.

The Wildcats maintained control of the match in singles play, winning five of the six opening sets. Freshman Charlelie Cosnet was the first to add a point to the team total, defeating Julien Penzlin 7-5, 6-2. Junior Joshua Lapadat extended his winning streak to seven matches with a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory over LSU’s Chen Dong.

Draxl completed an impressive comeback at first singles, defeating Ronald Hohmann 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the team match for UK. Ayeni and Weekes both won their matches in tiebreakers, while LSU’s Welsh Hotard defeated Baadi in a 10-point tiebreaker.

The Wildcats will have a day off before facing Arkansas on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at the Boone Tennis Center.
