The announcement was made recently, solidifying May’s position as a prominent figure in collegiate baseball.

May’s ascension to the NCBWA President role comes after serving on the organization’s Board of Directors and as the Vice President in 2023. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, May has been the primary baseball publicist since the 2017 season and has worked for UK Athletics Communications and Public Relations since September of 2016. Throughout his tenure, May has played a crucial role in promoting two of the most successful seasons in Kentucky baseball history, specifically the 2017 and 2022 NCAA Lexington Regional Championships.

Notably, May also had a hand in promoting the first-ever national Senior CLASS Award winner in the school’s history and contributed to the Wildcats earning two honorees in seven years. Apart from his endeavors in baseball, May serves as the secondary contact for Kentucky’s highly-regarded football program, providing support to UK publicist legends Tony Neely and Susan Lax.

Prior to joining UK, May spent three years as the media relations manager for the Keeneland Association. His experience also includes a significant stint as the beat writer and columnist for The Cats’ Pause and CatsPause.com from November 2001 to August 2013, during which he served as the lead reporter for University of Kentucky football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.

Moreover, May has proved his dedication to the community by serving as a board member for the Stroke Care Network Advisory Committee. In addition to his professional achievements, he holds a journalism degree from UK, having graduated in 2000. Outside of his career, May is a family man, married to his wife Carmen, and they have three children: Max, Miles, and Chloe.

With his extensive experience and deep knowledge of collegiate baseball, Matt May is poised to make a significant impact as the president of the NCBWA. This appointment is a clear recognition of May’s outstanding contributions to the sport and further solidifies his position as a respected figure within the baseball community. The upcoming year promises to be an exciting one under his leadership as he continues to elevate the profile of collegiate baseball.
