The No. 16 Kentucky men’s basketball team had an impressive victory over Marshall, with a final score of 118-82. This win improves Kentucky’s record to 5-1 for the season. Kentucky remains undefeated against Marshall, now leading the series 13-0.

It was a high-scoring game for the Wildcats, as they tallied 118 points, the most in the John Calipari era. This surpasses the previous record of 115 points scored against Arizona State in 2016. It was also the second 100-point game of the season for Kentucky and the 21st century score of the Calipari era.

Kentucky had an exceptional shooting performance, making 60.8% of their field goals and 16 of 27 3-point attempts. The Wildcats have been consistently scoring over 81 points in each of their six games this season, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since 1970-71. Additionally, Kentucky had six players score in double figures, marking the first time since 2021 they accomplished this.

The Wildcats’ success extends beyond their offense, as they demonstrated strong ball control with only nine turnovers in the game. This continues a trend of single-digit turnovers in five out of six games this season. Kentucky also had 27 assists, showcasing their ability to move the ball effectively.

Individually, D.J. Wagner had a standout performance with a season-high 28 points accompanied by five assists and three steals. Antonio Reeves also had an impressive game, scoring 23 points and making five 3-pointers. Tre Mitchell contributed 18 points and four rebounds, while Rob Dillingham recorded 16 points with a strong shooting performance. Freshman Joey Hart even got his first points as a Wildcat, sinking a 3-pointer.

Head coach John Calipari’s record continues to grow, as he now has an impressive 837-254 on-court record and a 392-114 record at Kentucky. Calipari maintains a perfect 7-0 record against Marshall and an outstanding 91.5% win rate in Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center.

Kentucky’s dominant performance in this game sets them up for their upcoming matchup against No. 10/11-ranked Miami (Fla.). With their strong scoring ability and solid ball control, the Wildcats will surely be a tough opponent in the game.
