The Louisville women’s basketball team has learned its fate in the 2023 NCAA Tournament after the bracket was released. With a record of 23-11, the Cardinals were awarded a No. 5 seed and are set to face off against the No. 12 seed, Drake, on March 18th. The game’s tip-off time has yet to be determined.
Because Louisville did not receive a top-four seed, they will not be hosting the first two rounds of the tournament. Instead, they will be heading to the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, for the first weekend. Fourth-seeded Texas is hosting the pod and is matched up against 13th-seeded East Carolina.
The Cardinals were placed in the Seattle 4 Region, where Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington will host the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games. In the region, Stanford, Iowa, Duke, and Texas claimed the top four seeds, while No. 1 seeds were awarded to South Carolina, Indiana, and Virginia Tech.
Although Louisville had a somewhat disappointing season, with double-digit losses for the first time since 2011-12, head coach Jeff Walz has the team playing well heading into the tournament. The Cardinals won eight of their last 11 games, securing their 13th consecutive 20-win season, including making it to the ACC Championship game before ultimately losing to Virginia Tech.
