The University of Louisville’s men’s basketball program made an exciting announcement on Thursday as they welcomed transfer Tre White to their 2023-24 roster.
Standing at 6-foot-7, White joins the Cardinals after an impressive freshman season at USC, where he showcased his skills on the court. With three years of eligibility remaining, his addition bolsters Louisville’s lineup.
Head coach Kenny Payne expressed his enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “I’m thrilled to bring in one of the most talented freshmen in the nation, someone who excels in rebounding, scoring, and defense. Tre is a versatile player who will undoubtedly make a significant impact on our program. Not only does he possess great character and work ethic, but he also understands what it takes to succeed in the game. His winning mentality will resonate with the Louisville fan base.”
During the 2022-23 season, White started in 29 out of 33 games for USC, earning a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. He averaged an impressive 9.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game. Shooting at an impressive 47.4% from the field, he played a crucial role in the Trojans’ successful 22-11 season and their NCAA Tournament run. White reached double figures in scoring on 11 occasions, including a standout performance of 22 points against Washington on February 4.
Prior to his time at USC, White showcased his talents at Prolific Prep in Napa, California, where he averaged an impressive 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game as a senior. His contributions helped propel the team to a notable 26-6 record and a spot in the GEICO High School Basketball National Tournament, where they even upset the top-ranked team in the country to advance to the semifinals.
With the addition of Tre White, Louisville’s basketball program gains a highly talented player who brings a diverse skill set and a winning mindset. Fans can eagerly anticipate his impact on the court in the upcoming season.
