Brooke Gray, a Louisville native, has been named the 2022-23 Gatorade Kentucky Softball Player of the Year. Gray is an incoming freshman at the University of Louisville and currently plays for Ballard High School. She has helped lead the team to an impressive 34-1 record as they enter the state semifinals. Gray is a left-handed pitcher that has dominated in the circle with a 27-0 record and a 0.68 ERA. She has surrendered only 85 hits and delivered 287 strikeouts in 175.2 innings. Gray has received recognition for her achievements on the field, including being named the 2022 state tournament MVP and earning all-state first team honoree status.

Over the past two seasons, Gray has tallied 58 straight wins in the circle, which is an impressive feat for any athlete. In addition to her achievements on the field, Gray has maintained a B average and is a member of the Ballard High School chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. These accomplishments reflect her dedication to both her academic and athletic pursuits, which are indicative of her exemplary character.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award was established in 1985 to recognize the most outstanding high school student-athletes across the United States for their academic achievements, athletic excellence, and exemplary character. The winners of the award are evaluated and selected on the basis of their performance in their respective sports, academic achievements, and their commitment to character, sportsmanship, and community.

By winning the Gatorade Kentucky Softball Player of the Year award, Gray has now become a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award to be announced in June. This award recognizes the most elite high school student-athletes in the country. Gray’s achievements and accolades make her a strong contender for this prestigious award, and has set her up for a bright future both on and off the field.
