Louisville sets new record with 93% graduation success rate

by

University of Louisville student-athletes have reason to celebrate as they achieved a department-record Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 93% in the most recent report released by the NCAA. This impressive figure surpasses their previous best mark of 92%, achieved last year, and the 91% recorded in the two years prior. The GSR, developed 19 years ago, takes into account transfers and mid-year enrollees who leave in good academic standing.

This report specifically considers freshmen who entered the university during the 2016-17 academic year, and it reflects the steady rise in Louisville’s GSR over the past 19 years, increasing by nearly 30% since reporting began. It is a testament to the university’s commitment to supporting and nurturing the academic success of their student-athletes.

Notably, 17 of Louisville’s athletic programs achieved a GSR of 90 or higher. Even more impressively, seven programs, including men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, field hockey, women’s soccer, and volleyball, recorded a perfect 100 GSR. These outstanding results highlight the dedication and hard work of both the student-athletes and the university’s academic support staff.

Further emphasizing their commitment to academic excellence, all Louisville student-athletes collectively produced an average GPA of 3.0 or better for the 25th consecutive semester in spring 2023. Their impressive combined GPA stood at 3.327. This consistent academic performance showcases the university’s emphasis on a well-rounded education for their student-athletes.

The outstanding academic achievements of University of Louisville student-athletes did not go unnoticed, as 404 of them were placed on the ACC 2022-23 Academic Honor Roll. To earn this recognition, student-athletes had to participate in a varsity-level sport and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better throughout the entire academic year. Louisville was among six schools with over 400 student-athletes receiving this prestigious honor, highlighting their dedication both on the field and in the classroom.

The culmination of their hard work was evident in the 111 UofL student-athletes who received their degrees during the 2022-23 school year, with 96 earning their degrees during the spring semester. These graduates are a shining example of the dedication and perseverance exhibited by student-athletes at the University of Louisville.

Overall, these impressive academic achievements demonstrate the University of Louisville’s commitment to providing an environment that fosters success both athletically and academically. The collective efforts of student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff continue to pay dividends, ensuring that the future remains bright for the student-athletes of UofL.
