The Kentucky men’s tennis team is gearing up for an exciting spring season as they announced their 2024 schedule. The defending SEC Tournament Champions are prepared to face tough competition in their quest for another championship title.
The Wildcats will kick off their season with a doubleheader against NKU and EKU on January 15 at the Boone Tennis Center. This will be followed by another doubleheader against Dayton on January 17. Their first road test will be against Illinois on January 20.
The Boone Tennis Center will once again host the ITA Kickoff Weekend, where Kentucky will face Alabama, Nebraska, and Notre Dame on January 26-27. The team that emerges victorious from this tournament will advance to the ITA Division I National Men’s Team Indoor Championships, to be held in February at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York.
The Wildcats will continue their non-conference play with matches against top-notch opponents such as Louisville, two-time defending National Champion Virginia, and Harvard. They will also face Duke in a road game on February 11.
Kentucky’s SEC regular season schedule includes 12 matches, starting with a visit to Vanderbilt on March 1. Other SEC road opponents this season include LSU, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. SEC home matches will be against Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee.
The Wildcats will be looking to defend their crown at the 2024 SEC Tournament Championship, which will be hosted by LSU from April 17-21 in Baton Rouge.
Following the SEC Tournament, Kentucky will set their sights on the NCAA Tournament. The First and Second Round matches will take place from May 2-5, with the Championship contest scheduled for May 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will follow from May 20-25 in Stillwater as well.
Kentucky had a successful campaign in 2023, winning their second-ever SEC Tournament Championship. They also reached the semifinals at ITA National Indoors and made it to the Elite Eight at the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats have some notable players returning this season, including All-SEC First Team selection Joshua Lapadat, All-SEC Second Team member Taha Baadi, and SEC All-Freshman Team honoree Jaden Weekes.
