The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Brooklynn Miles to its incoming class. She is a transfer from the University of Tennessee and was crowned Miss Kentucky Basketball in 2021. Miles, a native of Frankfort, Kentucky, will join the Wildcats as a junior in the 2023-24 season. She will join fellow Miss Kentucky Basketball winners, Amiya Jenkins and Maddie Scherr, on next season’s roster and will become the 14th Miss Kentucky Basketball winner to sign with the Wildcats.
Miles has spent the last two seasons at Tennessee, playing in 56 games and averaging 1.8 points per game, 2.1 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game. She was a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and was also selected for the 2022-23 VOLeaders Academy. Before joining Tennessee, Miles was considered the 62nd-ranked player in the Class of 2021, according to World Exposure Report, and the 20th-ranked point guard in the class, according to espnW.
She had a decorated high school career at Franklin County High School, which included being named 2021 Miss Kentucky Basketball, 2021 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year, and 2021 Lexington Herald-Leader Player of the Year. Her senior season saw her average 15.8 points per game, 5.4 assists per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 3.3 steals per game. Miles combined for 2,278 points, 624 assists, 477 rebounds, and 451 steals during her four-year high school career.
The head coach of the Kentucky women’s basketball program, Kyra Elzy, expressed her excitement about signing Miles, saying that “she is an explosive guard and a tenacious defender” who “understands the responsibility of wearing Kentucky across her chest.” Elzy added that Miles will fit the team’s up-tempo style of play and has a competitive mindset.
Kentucky women’s basketball has a rich history of success, dating back to the 1970s. They have reached the NCAA Tournament 25 times and have made the Elite Eight five times. Last season, the Wildcats finished with a record of 12-15 and reached the second round of the SEC Tournament. With the addition of Miles, the Wildcats hope to continue their success and compete with the best teams in the country.
