Will Levis, who was projected as a top NFL prospect, left Kentucky after the 2021 season. The Wildcats knew they had to find a high-level quarterback and brought in Liam Coen, who played a role in bringing in former N.C. State QB Devin Leary from the transfer portal. Although Leary set program and conference records at his former school, he suffered a pectoral tear on his throwing arm in October, raising questions about his health for Spring practice.
Fortunately, Leary is participating in Spring practice and has shown no signs of arm pain after throwing. However, the staff is ensuring that he is 100% healed before allowing him to “rip passes at 100%.” He will be on a throw count for the time being. Coach Stoops reported that Leary looked good during the first practice and was able to participate for the majority of it.
The question now is who will be the backup quarterback, with several options available, including Kaiya Sheron, Destin Wade, and Deuce Hogan. With Coen returning as offensive coordinator, it is hoped that he can help Leary and the Wildcats improve their offense this season.
