The 2022-23 college basketball season has been a good one for Kentucky Wildcat’s Lance Ware. The 6-foot-9 forward from Camden, New Jersey has shown flashes of brilliance on the court, particularly in some of his season-high performances.
On November 17, 2022, Ware led the Wildcats to a comfortable win over South Carolina State with a season-high 12 points. He shot an impressive 100% from the field, making all six of his field goal attempts.
Ware’s defensive presence was also on full display in Kentucky’s victory over Duquesne on November 11, 2022. In this game, he recorded a season-high four blocks, helping the Wildcats limit their opponents to only 58 points.
In addition to his defensive prowess, Ware has also been a key contributor on the offensive end. He recorded a season-high three assists in Kentucky’s game against Missouri on December 28, 2022. He also pulled down a season-high six rebounds in the same game.
Despite being primarily known for his defensive abilities, Ware has also shown glimpses of offensive brilliance. He recorded his season-high in minutes played (29) in Kentucky’s game against Missouri on December 28, 2022, where he scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Ware’s season-high in free throw attempts (6) came in Kentucky’s game against Howard on November 7, 2022, where he finished the game with eight points and four steals.
While Ware has not attempted a three-point shot this season, his contributions to the team have been vital to Kentucky’s success. His ability to score, rebound, block shots, and play lockdown defense has made him a valuable asset to the Wildcats.

The Backstory…
Born and raised in New Jersey, Ware had an outstanding high school career, leading his team to a 29-1 record in his senior season and earning accolades such as the NJ.com Player of the Year and All-State First Team selection.
Ware made an immediate impact in his freshman year for the Wildcats, showcasing his physicality and rebounding skills in 21 games, including three starts. He recorded 41 points, 63 rebounds, 11 blocks, and six steals, and produced a pair of double-figure rebounding efforts. Ware’s standout performance came against No. 18/17 Missouri, where he scored a career-high eight points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.
In his sophomore season, Ware continued to build on his previous successes, appearing in 28 games for the Wildcats. He registered career highs in points, blocks, and field-goal percentage, leading the team in blocks in four games. Ware’s contributions were not limited to defense, as he also had several impressive offensive outings, including four points and a season-high seven rebounds in a home win over Florida.
Ware’s achievements extend beyond the basketball court, as he was named to the 2021-22 SEC Community Service Team for his dedication to community service.
