Josie Williams, a talented 6-foot-5 center from West Haven, Utah, has made quite the name for herself in college basketball during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. Let’s take a look at her impressive highlights:
In the 2022-23 season, Josie scored five points on two-for-two shooting and had a steal in just over a minute of play in the home win over Miami. She set a season high with two steals to go along with nine points and five rebounds against Bellarmine. Josie also scored a season-high 11 points and tallied three assists in the win over SIUE. She was even named to the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, which recognizes the top centers in women’s college basketball.
During her senior year at Utah Valley (2021-2022), Josie appeared and started in 30 of 31 games. She was a dominant force on the court, averaging an impressive 17.3 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. Josie was named to the All-WAC first team for the second straight season and set a new single-season record with 24 double-doubles, tying for fourth in the country. Her 12.4 rebounds per game were the second-highest single-season average at UVU, and she led the WAC and ranked fifth in the country.
Josie was seventh nationally in offensive rebounds per game (4.4) and 12th in defensive rebounds per game (8.0). She also led the WAC and ranked 23rd in the nation among qualified players with a 55.3% field goal percentage. Josie scored in double figures in all 30 games played and set a then-high of 28 points in a win at Seattle U before establishing a new career-high with 31 points on 12-for-16 shooting at California Baptist.
Throughout the season, Josie had several standout performances. She set a career-high of 19 rebounds on two occasions, in a win over Portland State and in a win over Dixie State. In fact, she had 24 points and 19 boards against Dixie State in just 24 minutes of action. Josie recorded a double-double in 12 of the final 13 games of the season, including a game where she had 22 points and 15 rebounds in a WAC Tournament win over UTRGV. She finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds against Stephen F. Austin in the WAC Tournament and was named to the WAC All-Tournament Team for the second straight season.
Josie’s outstanding performance did not go unnoticed, as she was named the WAC Player of the Week twice (Nov. 29 and Feb. 28). In a win over Chicago State, Josie had 18 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks, and six assists. She scored 20 points or more eight times and had 15 rebounds or more eight times. Josie also shot an impressive 81.1% from the free-throw line and was named to the Academic All-WAC Team, showing that she not only excels on the court but in the classroom as well.
Josie Williams is a standout player with the Louisville Cardinals and has a bright future ahead of her. Her talent, dedication, and hard work have earned her numerous accolades and recognition as one of the top centers in women’s college basketball.
