The Kentucky rifle team is set to face off against in-state rival Murray State at the Withrow Invitational this weekend. The Invitational features five teams, all of which are ranked in the top 20 in the nation. Among the competitors are No. 14 Jacksonville State, No. 17 North Georgia, and No. 20 UAB. Ranked No. 3, Kentucky will take on the No. 10-ranked Murray State on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
Kentucky coach Harry Mullins expects tough competition from Murray State and the other top-ranked teams at the event. “Murray State is a very good team, and with all the teams ranked in the top 20, it will be good competition,” Mullins said. “In addition to the quality opponents, we’ll be shooting in a nice facility, so from here on out, all of our events will have a postseason feel.”
Kentucky comes into the competition with an 8-1 record, following wins over Army and Nebraska last week. The team has been performing consistently well this season, with average scores of 2342.9 in smallbore and 2380.4 in air rifle, resulting in an average aggregate score of 4723.3.
Several Kentucky shooters have been standing out individually this season. Allison Buesseler, Sofia Ceccarello, Braden Peiser, Emmie Sellers, Jaden Thompson, and Martin Voss all have average aggregates of at least 1171. Ceccarello leads the pack with an average of 1186. AJ Hotko, Kayla Kalenza, and Emily Marne will also be competing for Kentucky on Sunday.
