Roosevelt Wheeler, the sophomore center for Louisville, has entered the transfer portal. Wheeler played in 25 games this past season and had an average of 1.2 points and 2 rebounds. He was a four-star prospect out of high school but did not start a game during his time at Louisville.
Wheeler joins several other Louisville players in the outgoing transfer portal, including freshmen Fabio Basili, Devin Ree, and Kamari Lands, and senior Sydney Curry. This is not an uncommon trend in college basketball, as players often seek new opportunities and playing time at different programs.
Head coach Kenny Payne has been active in adding players in the postseason. He recently added 5-star center Dennis Evans and Skyy Clark, a former 5-star recruit who originally signed with Kentucky but transferred to Louisville. Additionally, Louisville is hoping to land Trentyn Flowers, a 5-star guard in the 2024 class who is scheduled to announce his college decision on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals also have other players in the fold for next season, such as Kaleb Glenn, a 6-6 forward from La Lumiere High School in Indiana, 4-star forward Curtis Glenn from Michigan and Koron Davis, a 6-7 guard from Los Angeles Southwest College, announced his intent to transfer to the Cards.
Overall, Louisville is undergoing some changes in their roster for the upcoming season, but they are also actively recruiting new players to fill the gaps. Only time will tell how these changes will impact the team’s performance in the future.
