Throughout the regular season, Brown led the Southeastern Conference and ranked second in the nation with an average of 31.7 yards per kickoff return. He also stood out as the only player in the SEC, and one of only five players in the country, to have recorded two kickoff return touchdowns in 2023. These impressive statistics allowed him to tie the Kentucky records for most kickoff return touchdowns in a season (two) and career (three).

Throughout the season, Rutherford displayed her exceptional skills on the court, averaging 3.47 kills per set in her 78 appearances. She also contributed 1.53 digs per set and 0.90 blocks per set. Her stellar performance earned her a spot on the All-SEC team for the third time in her career. Additionally, she was recently named to the All-Region team and received the honor of being recognized as an American Volleyball Coaches’ Association All-American for the first time in her career in 2022.

This is the first time Sheppard has received this honor, and it marks the second consecutive week that a UK freshman has been named the top-performing first-year player in the SEC, following D.J. Wagner’s recognition last week. The University of Kentucky has a storied history of success in the SEC, having earned a total of 127 weekly SEC honors during the John Calipari era. Among these accolades, 96 have been SEC Freshman of the Week awards, and 31 have been SEC Player of the Week honors.

During his high school days, Weaver established a foundation called “15 for Freddie” as a way to honor his grandfather, Freddie Weaver. This foundation focused on helping the homeless through various initiatives. Once he joined the University of Kentucky as a freshman, Weaver transformed his foundation into “The Perfect Fit.” This new community service organization drew inspiration from Weaver’s own unique physical characteristic – a six-finger right hand, a condition known as polydactyly.

Since that loss to Tennessee, the Wildcats have won an impressive 16 consecutive matches and claimed their seventh consecutive Southeastern Conference title. Their hard work was rewarded once again when they were selected to host an NCAA Volleyball Tournament regional at Rupp Arena this week, something that seemed unlikely just two months ago.
