The University of Louisville men’s golf team had their season come to an end after they tied for eighth place at the Morgan Hill Regional at the Institute Golf Club in Morgan Hill, California on Wednesday. The event saw the top-five finishers advance to the NCAA Championship on May 26-31 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Cardinals tied with Arizona at 25-over-par for the three days, 14 shots behind the advancing teams. Louisville finished the regional with scores of 287-303-299-889 after shooting a round of 11-over-par on Wednesday. Although the Cards attempted to make a comeback with 11 birdies on the final round, a couple of double bogeys in the final holes thwarted their efforts.

Mississippi State, BYU, Florida State, Baylor, and Pepperdine were the five teams to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Florida State’s Luke Clanton won the individual regional title with a score of 6-under-par. The Tigers won the regional with a score of 1-under-par, finishing as the only school to come in under-par for the week.

Senior Jiri Zuska and sophomore Sebastian Moss finished in the top 20, with Zuska ending the tournament in a tie for 11th and Moss in a tie for 17th. Zuska had the best performance of the five starters on Wednesday, carding a 1-under-par 71 to close the regional at 1-over-par. On Wednesday, Zuska recorded 17 pars and one birdie on No. 7. Moss ended the regional 3-over after his rounds of 70-73-76=219, carding a 4-over-par 76 on Wednesday that kept him from finishing in the top 10. He struggled on the front nine at 5-over-par, but was 1-under on the back, with consecutive birdies on No. 10 and No. 11.

Max Kennedy saw his string of seven consecutive top-10 finishes come to an end, ending the regional in a tie for 45th after shooting 72-79-75=226. C.M. Mixon, who was participating in only his second event this season, tied for 61st at 15-over-par, while Mads Roddik finished in a tie for 64th at 16-over-par.

The Cardinals are set to return three of the five players who participated in this week’s regional competition for next season. The NCAA Championship will take place from May 26-31 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
