Trentyn Flowers, a five-star small forward from Combine Academy in North Carolina, has committed to the University of Louisville. Flowers is ranked as the No. 21 overall prospect in the class of 2024, according to 247 Sports. However, he has also announced that he will be reclassifying to the 2023 class, which means he will be eligible to play for the Cardinals in the upcoming 2023-24 season.
The Louisville coaching staff has been targeting Flowers for almost a year and beat out North Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Kansas, and Creighton for his commitment. Flowers cited his strong relationships with the coaches, particularly coach KP and coach Nolan, as the reason for his commitment. He also stated that their goals aligned with his own.
At 6’8, Flowers is a highly skilled three-level scorer who can also handle the ball and create shots for his teammates. His elite playmaking abilities will be a valuable addition to the Cardinals’ roster, particularly in Kenny Payne’s second season as head coach.
Flowers has a strong bond with the coaching staff at Louisville, which made him feel like part of a family. He was impressed by their consistent recruitment efforts and their attendance at many of his games. The coaching staff’s extensive experience in college basketball and the highest levels of competition convinced Flowers that they could help him achieve his goal of becoming a professional basketball player. He believes that the coaches have a plan for him that aligns with his goals and abilities.
Payne has already made significant additions to the Louisville roster this offseason, including a five-star member of the class of 2023, a five-star member (formerly) of the class of 2024, and a top player from the transfer portal. These moves are an excellent start to an important offseason for both Payne and the Cardinals’ program.
Coach Payne continues his rebuild for the 2023-24 season and is making the collegiate world pay more attention to the Cardinals in the offseason. Should be interesting to see what he can do with this new group of young men.
