Hailey Van Lith, a junior guard at the University of Louisville, received her third All-American honor of the postseason as she was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday. Earlier on the same day, she was named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators and also received an honorable mention All-American recognition from the Associated Press.
Van Lith leads her team with an average of 19.2 points per game, ranking as one of only two Power Five players, alongside Caitlin Clark, to average at least 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game this season. She was also named first team All-ACC for the second consecutive season, ACC first team All-Tournament, and a Drysdale Award Finalist for the best shooting guard in the country.
Nationwide, Van Lith ranks high in several categories, including total points scored, free throw percentage, field goals made, minutes per game, and points per game. Out of her 33 games this season, she has scored in double figures in 31 games and has scored 20 or more points in 16 games. In games against ACC opponents, she has scored 15 points or more in 17 games and 20 points or more in 10 games.
Van Lith’s most outstanding game of the season came against Florida State in January, where she scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, provided eight assists, and tied her career-high of five steals. She also hit a jumper as the shot clock was expiring in the final minute, leading the Cardinals to be the only team to beat Florida State in Tallahassee. Van Lith is the only Power Five player in the country to achieve at least 20 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and five steals in a single game this season.
Van Lith and the Louisville Cardinals will be competing in the NCAA Tournament this weekend as the No. 5 seed in the Seattle 4 Regional. They will face the winners of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, the No. 12 seed Drake Bulldogs, in the first round at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET, which will be broadcast on ESPN2.
