The University of Louisville softball team won against North Carolina State in a 3-2 extra-inning victory. The Cards extended their winning streak to seven games and completed a three-game sweep of the Wolfpack. In the game, there were only five runs and four of them came from sacrifice flies. Korbe Otis hit a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Madison Winkler for the game-winning run.
Louisville had a strong defense with Taylor Roby, who had two innings of relief without letting the Wolfpack score. Sam Booe had a good performance as the starting pitcher, giving up only one earned run in 5.1 innings of play, while Alyssa Zabala was able to stop an earned run in her 1.2 innings of relief. Ally Alexander had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double. Meanwhile, Otis went 2-for-5 with a triple, one run, and one RBI.
The Cards started with a run in the first inning when Otis hit her fifth triple of the season and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sarah Gordon. The Wolfpack came back in the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Haley Haislip that evened the score. Louisville took the lead again in the sixth inning after a sacrifice fly by Winkler. However, the Wolfpack tied the game in the seventh inning with another sacrifice fly by Taylor Ensley.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Winkler hit a leadoff single, then Paige Geraghty had a sacrifice bunt, and Otis hit a single to shallow left field. Winkler rounded the third base and reached home plate to secure the 3-2 win. Aisha Weixlmann, the Wolfpack pitcher, took the loss allowing Louisville’s winning run. Kaylee Lambrecht went 2-for-3 to lead the Wolfpack at the plate.
