Ten student athletes from the Kentucky track and field team have been recognized for their outstanding performances both on and off the field, having been selected to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Teams by College Sports Communicators. The prestigious award is presented to the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competitions and in the classroom.
This year’s honorees include Alexander Justus, Beck O’Daniel, Joshua Sobota, Jacob Sobota, Aaron Withrow, Bryanna Lucas, Phoebe McCowan, Sydney Steely, Siobhan Szerencsits, and Juliann Williams,. They will advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The first, second, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 28th (women) and June 29th (men).
Josh Sobota earned the award for the fourth time, and Withrow was named to the All-District Team for the second time. All remaining athletes are first-time award winners. The Kentucky track and field team’s 2023 season will conclude at the NCAA Division I championships from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
Kentucky Track and Field’s exceptional performance is not surprising given their reputation of excellence. The UK track and field team is consistently a standout program, with numerous SEC championships, All-Americans, and NCAA championships. In 2012, Kendra Harrison, a UK athlete, took the NCAA championship title in the 400 hurdles, and since then, several athletes have followed in her footsteps, earning individual NCAA championship titles in their respective events.
With their success on and off the field, it’s no wonder the Kentucky Track and Field team has once again earned recognition for their dedication and excellence in both academics and athletics.
