The University of Louisville baseball team, currently ranked fourth in the nation, returned home to Jim Patterson Stadium on Tuesday to take on Morehead State. The Cards came into the game with an impressive 10-1 record, having won their last five games, including a series sweep of the Texas Longhorns over the weekend.
Louisville has been on a tear offensively this season, averaging 9.5 runs per game and hitting .311 as a team. Their pitching staff has also been dominant, posting a team ERA of 2.00 and holding opponents to a .176 batting average.
In Tuesday’s game against Morehead State, Louisville continued their hot streak, scoring 11 runs on 14 hits. Ryan McCoy, Brandon Anderson, Isaac Humphrey, and Haven Mangrum all had multi-hit games, while Anderson drove in three runs to lead the team.
Louisville’s pitching staff was equally impressive, with seven different pitchers taking the mound and holding Morehead State to just one run on three hits. Kade Grundy picked up the win, improving his record to 2-0 on the season.
With the win, Louisville improved to 11-1 on the season and extended their winning streak to six games. They have now scored double-digit runs in five of their last six games and have tallied double-digit hits in seven straight games.
Louisville will look to continue their winning ways this weekend as they host Dayton in a three-game series at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cards will be looking to maintain their position among the top-ranked teams in the nation and build momentum heading into conference play later in the season.
