In what turned out to be a wild second quarter, 8 players were ejected from the game during the SEC tourney. Kentucky’s Jada Walker gets a bucket to put the Lady Cats up 20-14. As Ajae Petty turned to run back up the court the ball seems to roll up the face of Florida player Tatyana Wyche. Wyche didn’t like that and immediately grabbed the ball and hurled it towards Petty as she was running back down the court. Then, with a look of determination, Wyche stares down and heads towards Petty. The benches started to clear and a small scrum starts in front of the Kentucky bench.
Wildcats and Gators players were seen jawing at each other for a couple minutes. Eventually the refs and staff got everything settled down but the game was delayed some 20 minutes while everything got sorted out. Some of the players ejected were ejected for leaving the bench and weren’t directly involved with the altercation.
Players Ejected:
- Florida sophomore Taliyah Wyche (Tatyana’s sister)
- Florida junior Ra Shaya Kyle
- Florida senior Faith Dut
- Kentucky freshman Saniyah Tyler
- Kentucky junior Eniya Russell
- Kentucky freshman Cassidy Rowe
- Kentucky freshman Zennia Thomas
It was a blow to Florida as Kyle was the Gators leading rebounder on the season averaging 6.2 rebounds per game.
Kentucky won the first round game 72-57. Florida fell to 16-14 and all indications are that they will not make the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Cats return to action on Thursday when they face Alabama at 8:30 PM.
