Former Kentucky Guard Tyler Ulis Making a Big Impact as Student Assistant on Wildcats' Coaching Staff

Tyler Ulis is a well-known basketball player, particularly in Lexington, where he played for the Kentucky Wildcats. As one of the best guards, especially for his size, to ever play for the Wildcats, Ulis made a name for himself in college basketball.

Before attending Kentucky, Ulis was a top-20 recruit from Marian Catholic High School in 2014. At Kentucky, he played for two seasons and averaged 17.3 points per game during his sophomore year. He was a key player in the Wildcats’ success and was regarded as one of the best point guards in the country.

After his college career, Ulis played in the NBA for three seasons. He spent two seasons with the Phoenix Suns and one with the Chicago Bulls, where he averaged 7.5 points per game. Unfortunately, injuries derailed his NBA career, but he remained committed to basketball.

Last December, Ulis announced that he would be joining the Kentucky coaching staff as a student assistant. Since then, he has made an impact on the team and has been working closely with five-star guard Cason Wallace. With Sahvir Wheeler sidelined due to injury, Wallace has had to step into a leadership role, and Ulis has been helping him through the transition.

Ulis’s addition to the coaching staff has been well-received by all parties, and his father has expressed excitement about his son’s future. He believes that Ulis is where he should be, and being back in Kentucky is the best decision he could have made.

Ulis has faced adversity throughout his basketball career, including injuries that derailed his NBA career. However, he has always been able to exceed expectations, and the expectations are high for him and the Kentucky basketball team. With DJ Wagner set to join the roster next season, there is a lot to look forward to for Kentucky basketball fans.

You can catch Tyler on the bench coaching tomorrow night as the Kentucky Wildcats, 3rd in SEC, take on the Florida Gators.
