In a recent announcement by the conference office, three University of Louisville track & field athletes have been recognized for their outstanding performances at the KTCCCA College Opener. Trey Allen, a redshirt senior, was named the ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week for the second time in his career. Freshman Sophia Day and Cade DeWitt were also acknowledged, with Day receiving the inaugural ACC Female Freshman of the Week title and DeWitt earning the ACC Male Freshman of the Week honor.
Allen’s exceptional performance in the men’s high jump secured him the top spot in the nation with a final height of 2.24m (7-4.25). He achieved this impressive feat on his third and final attempt, after flawlessly clearing the bar in his previous three jumps.
In her collegiate debut, Day emerged victorious in the women’s triple jump, leaping to a mark of 11.82m (38-9.5). This outstanding performance currently ranks as the best in the ACC early in the season.
DeWitt also had a noteworthy collegiate debut, setting a new freshman record of 5.23m (17-1.75) in the men’s pole vault. This accomplishment places him in a tie for the fourth-best mark nationally and stands as the second-best mark in the history of Louisville school.
The Cardinals, including Allen, Day, and DeWitt, will have a well-deserved break before returning to compete in the Rod McCravy Invitational from January 12-13 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.
