LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Cardinals are gearing up for their second game in a span of five days as they get ready to host the Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN. The Cardinals are riding the momentum of a 34-3 win over Virginia Tech and are looking to secure their third-straight win and 11th consecutive victory at home.

With this win, Louisville now holds a record of 21-3 overall and 12-2 in ACC play. Anna DeBeer also had a strong performance for the Cardinals, recording 14 kills and two aces. Charite Luper and Cara Cresse each added 10 kills and a block to contribute to the team’s success. Luper also landed two aces against the Tigers. Setter Elle Glock played a crucial role with 52 assists and three aces, while libero Elena Scott led the match with 12 digs.

Under Coach Walz, the Cardinals have been a force to be reckoned with, making five consecutive Elite Eight appearances and maintaining a six-year Sweet Sixteen streak, both of which are unmatched by any other team in the country. Last season, the Cardinals won 26 games and extended their streak of 11-straight seasons with 25 or more wins. They also finished fourth in the ACC and advanced to the ACC Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in program history.

The Cardinals had a solid performance with a 12-10 record in singles matches and a 5-6 record in doubles matches. Each player on the team secured at least one win in both singles and doubles.

Louisville got off to a blazing start, taking a commanding 3-0 lead thanks to the heroics of Sander Roed. The junior midfielder came off the bench in the 23rd minute and wasted no time making an impact. After Quinton Elliot’s cross was deflected, Roed pounced on the loose ball and fired a shot into the back of the net on his first touch of the match.

In their two exhibition games, the Cardinals had mixed results, with a dominant 91-50 victory over Simmons College but a narrow 71-68 defeat to Kentucky Wesleyan. Meanwhile, UMBC had a strong showing last season with an 18-14 record but fell to Fordham 79-75 in their lone exhibition game this year. This will be the first meeting between Louisville and the Retrievers, making UMBC the only new opponent on the Cardinals’ schedule for this season.

Northwestern, the host of the tournament, has earned the overall No. 2 seed. They will be playing against the winner of a play-in game between Miami (Ohio) and California. Their match is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. ET. The winners of the first-round matches will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

His first touchdown, a 39-yard run, gave Louisville a 14-0 lead to start the second quarter. Guerendo’s impressive performance also included a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a sealing 36-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. This marked Guerendo’s first 100-yard rushing game at Louisville and a single-game career-high in touchdowns.
