Kentucky entered the game as a 5.5 point favorite but the final score was so lopsided that not even the Vegas odds makers predicted this one. The Kentucky Wildcats sent the Tigers packing with a 32 point win.
Bruce Pearl On Why The Kentucky Wildcats Beat Them…
Auburn Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl said his team was “no match” for the Wildcats. Saying the Cats physicality at every position was a big issue.
“They are literally bigger and stronger at every position,” Coach Pearl said. He also went on to say that his team was “not competitive today”.
The Wildcats speed and physicality was a crushing blow to the Tigers who took a pummeling with a 32 point loss. At one stretch in the game the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 46-17 before Pearl emptied his bench and those players went on an 8-0 against Kentucky.
The Tigers had 13 turnovers during the game and handed out a measly 4 assists.
Coming into the game the Tigers record of 19-9 wasn’t anything to sneeze at. They are a reputable team that has played some tough matchups this year in SEC play and outside of the conference.
But Pearl also got a look at just how powerful and explosive these Cats can be when they are hitting on all cylinders. His big men also got a lesson on why Oscar is the reigning POY.
Reigning POY Oscar Tshiebwe continued is dominance on the court by grabbing 17 board bounces and putting up 22 points.
Kentucky is now almost a shoe-in for the tourney with this recent run. Even the SEC tourney is going to be a good one to watch with several teams in the SEC currently ranked, with Alabama bouncing around #1 to #5 all year.
If the Kentucky Wildcats continue on this run they could see a seed as high as #6 in the NCAA Tournament. Heck, if they win the SEC tourney they could go a bit higher.
Only time will tell. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
