The head coach of Louisville’s men’s basketball team, Kenny Payne, is already working hard on the roster management front for next year, despite the 2022-23 season ending only two days ago. According to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers, the Cardinals have recently contacted Sean Conway, who is a transfer from VMI. Conway has received interest from other schools like Loyola Chicago, Rhode Island, and Iowa State, after entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer earlier this week.
Despite VMI’s 7-25 record this season, Conway played well and was the second-leading scorer on the team with 12.1 points per game in 29 total games and 28 starts.
He made 62 three-pointers and had a 37.8 percent success rate from beyond the arc, while also shooting 41.8 percent from the field. Additionally, Conway averaged 4.9 rebounds per game.
Rebuilding the roster will be a crucial task for the Cardinals this offseason, following a disappointing 4-28 season. Payne’s top priority will be to acquire quality guard depth, such as Conway, since the team only had three true scholarship guards this past season.
El Ellis was the only guard who regularly played and led the team in scoring and minutes per game with 17.7 points and 35.9 minutes, respectively.
The Cards have a roster that is in disarray. They need to land some core transfer pieces or get some five star recruits to solidify their roster for next year.
