LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Cardinals are gearing up for their second game in a span of five days as they get ready to host the Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN. The Cardinals are riding the momentum of a 34-3 win over Virginia Tech and are looking to secure their third-straight win and 11th consecutive victory at home.

Louisville, Ky. – The Louisville Cardinals delivered an impressive performance on November 4th, defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies with a resounding score of 34-3 at L&N Stadium. It was a game that showcased the Cardinals’ dominance on both sides of the ball, solidifying their standing as a formidable force in the conference.

Led by running back Isaac Guerendo, the Cardinals offense was firing on all cylinders. Guerendo had a standout game, rushing for three touchdowns and 146 yards on just 11 attempts. His first touchdown, a 39-yard run, gave Louisville a 14-0 lead to start the second quarter. Guerendo’s impressive performance also included a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a sealing 36-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. This marked Guerendo’s first 100-yard rushing game at Louisville and a single-game career-high in touchdowns.

One of the notable achievements from the Duke game was Louisville’s first-ever shutout against a ranked opponent. The Cardinals’ defense held Duke to just 202 yards of total offense and 51 rushing yards. This stellar defensive performance marks the third straight game in which Louisville has held their opponents to under 300 yards of total offense, and the fourth straight game in which they have held their opponents to under 100 rushing yards.

Additionally, volunteers will be stationed at the Kroger Ultimate Tailgate in the Planet Fitness Purple Lot to collect any donations.

Coach Brohm emphasized the defensive performance, highlighting the team’s ability to apply pressure on the quarterback and disrupt opponents’ passing game. He credited the coaching staff for their preparation and game plan, as well as the unselfishness of the offense in complementing the defense. Brohm also discussed the importance of depth and the role of the transfer portal in adding talented players to the team.

The Cardinals showcased their offensive prowess by racking up 340 yards of offense, with 223 of those coming from their ground game. Head Coach Jeff Brohm was proud of his team’s performance, stating, “We were really efficient on offense, being really physical up front, running the football at them, and taking advantage of what the defense was giving us.”

In their last game, Louisville fell to Pitt by a score of 38-21. The Cardinals struggled with turnovers, giving the ball away three times inside the opposition’s 30-yard line. Despite holding a halftime lead of 21-14, they were unable to maintain their momentum and were outscored 24-0 in the second half, resulting in their first loss of the season.
