The Wildcats continue to dominate the track and field scene as two more records were broken at the Razorback Invitational. Freshman Ed Bird and senior Sydney Steely set new records in the 3000 meters and 800 meters, respectively. Bird’s time of 7:59.99 in the 3000 meters broke a freshman record and ranks sixth on the UK all-time performers list. Steely set a new school record in the indoor 800 meters with a time of 2:03.53.
In addition to these records, the Wildcats had a successful weekend with seven top-10 finishes and four personal bests. Overall, the team finished the meet with three new records, 12 top-10 finishes, and 11 personal bests.
Other impressive performances included graduate student Kennedy Lightner and freshman Troy Lane advancing to the prelims of the 60-meter dash. Junior Alexis Glasco won her heat in the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for the final. Senior Jania Martin made history with her 11th place finish in the 400 meters, earning her a spot on the UK all-time performers list.
For the upcoming weekend, the Wildcats will have a break before returning to action on February 9th and 10th at the Tiger Paw Invite hosted by Clemson University and the David Hemery Valentine Invite hosted by Boston University.
