The Kentucky Wildcats have been on a run lately and their stock is rising quickly. Are they peaking at the right moment? It appears that way….
Conference Tournaments begin this week with the Major College Tourney’s to follow next week. We are 13 days out from Selection Sunday.
The field of 68 teams is changing daily. Just two weeks ago many in the sports world were calling Kentucky out of the tournament and some even calling for John Calipari to hand over the reigns of head coach to someone else. Yes, the Wildcats were on the bubble just a few weeks ago but now it appears that they are firmly in the tournament. Joe Lunardi even predicted this Kentucky Wildcats team to make a final four run. Read it here.
Jerry Palm has the Cats firmly OFF the bubble and in the tournament at a #7 seed. Up 3 positions from a week ago where they were projected #10 seed. The Wildcats still have one more home game on Wednesday at Rupp Arena vs. Candy and then a road game against Arkansas. It would take something dramatic to see the Cats slide out of the tournament now before the SEC Tourney. But, with all the drama surrounding Kentucky this year I wouldn’t count anything out.
Truth be told, they may just be a lock for the tourney at this point. With BBN so riled up lately it would be a tragedy for the Selection Committee to overlook Kentucky. BBN travels well and fills seats at arenas. My guess is they’ll make the field and likely may move even higher than a #7 seed if they can win these last two games of the regular season. Entering into the SEC tournament could see the Cats surge as high as a #4 seed if they can win the SEC tourney. A lot to unpack here but one thing is for certain, the Cats are peaking at the right time.
